The Welcome Party: A Pizza Night in the Orange Garden
Nish and Matteo’s three-day destination wedding in Tuscany began with a relaxed welcome party in the venue’s orange garden. Their family and friends had travelled from the UK to celebrate with them, and the first evening was all about getting everyone together before the wedding celebrations began.
There was pizza, plenty of conversation, and that feeling of finally being in the same place with all your favourite people. With Nish’s Indian heritage and Matteo’s Italian roots, the weekend was going to bring together different traditions and cultures, but first, everyone had a chance to settle in and enjoy the evening.
We also knew that the next two days would be incredibly full, with celebrations taking place across several venues and a packed schedule. There probably wouldn’t be a proper window for portraits of just the two of them, so we took the opportunity to photograph Nish and Matteo together during the welcome evening.
It was a little couple session, without taking them away from their guests for too long. We wanted them to have some photographs together while everything was still relaxed, before the pace of the wedding weekend picked up. Looking back, it was the perfect time to do it.
After the welcome party, we headed off to back up all the photos and video footage, recharge our gear, and get everything ready for the two days ahead. The wedding celebrations were only just getting started.
The morning of Nish & Matt — creative preparations across two Tuscan villas
Our day started early in Florence. With Nish and Matt getting ready at two different villas, we wanted to arrive with plenty of time to settle in, look around, and find opportunities to tell their story in our own way.
We began at Fattoria di Fubbiano, where Matt was getting ready with his father and closest friends. The Tuscan summer was already showing no mercy, and the heat was intense, so we quickly learned to appreciate every air-conditioned room we could find. Thankfully, the venue team were incredibly kind and helpful, making it easy for us to move around and bring our ideas to life.
One of those ideas was a little scene we had imagined beforehand: Matt leaning out of a window to call out and greet the arriving guests. We needed a simple, uncluttered backdrop for it, and the only window that felt right was in one of the venue's offices. The team didn't hesitate to let us use the space. It was a small gesture, but it made the shot possible, and those are often the moments that make a wedding day more fun to create.
Once Matt was ready, we took a little time away from the preparations to make some editorial-style portraits of him and his friends. We wanted the images to feel polished without losing their personality. Then we got to experiment a bit. With the pool, the water, and direct flash, we created a creative groom flatlay that felt different from the usual detail photographs. We love when a few simple elements at a venue give us room to try something unexpected.
After saying goodbye to Matt and the guys, we headed to Villa Teto to join Nish. Some of her family and closest friends were gathered there, and we arrived just as her makeup was coming to an end. The atmosphere was already shifting from quiet preparation to the excitement of getting ready together.
Before Nish put on her dress, we took the girls into the garden for a bridal pajama party. It was a chance to let everyone relax, laugh, and enjoy being together before the pace of the day picked up. While they spent time with one another, we explored the garden and used the villa's surroundings to create playful frames that felt a little more editorial. We also photographed Nish's dress, taking our time with the details before she stepped into it.
Then came the moment the girls had been waiting for. Once Nish was dressed, she had a first look with her bridesmaids, her sister, and Matt's mother. We love these moments because there's no need to ask anyone to react or to make something happen. Everyone sees the bride for the first time, and the expressions, smiles, and little gestures take care of themselves.
All morning, Nish and Matt had been surrounded by their own people, getting ready in separate places and building up to the same moment. After spending time with each side of the story, it was finally time for them to see each other. Before heading into the rest of the day, we had one more moment to capture: Nish and Matt's first look.
The ceremony at Fattoria di Fubbiano — an intimate moment in the heart of Tuscany
Once Nish and Matt's first look and morning preparations were behind us, we headed straight back to Fattoria di Fubbiano to prepare for the ceremony. This is always one of the busiest parts of the day for us, even if everything looks calm from the outside. Before the guests take their seats and the ceremony begins, there's a lot happening behind the scenes to make sure we can capture the moments that matter without getting in the way of them.
The ceremony space presented quite a challenge. Set between two buildings, the available area was only around six metres wide, with approximately 80 guests gathering closely together. We had to think carefully about every camera position, making sure we could capture the important moments from different angles. We needed to make sure that guests moving around or other vendors working nearby wouldn't accidentally block our cameras and cause us to miss important moments. With six cameras to position and a limited amount of room to work with, we spent time walking through the space, checking sightlines, and figuring out how we could move around without ending up in each other's frames.
We also wanted to capture the ceremony from above using our DJI Mavic 4 Pro drone. The wind was particularly strong at around 40 metres above the venue, so we had to plan the flight carefully and calculate our available battery time to make sure we could cover the ceremony without compromising safety or missing important moments. It's one of those details that most guests will never notice, but thoughtful preparation like this makes a real difference when everything happens only once.
Sound was just as important. Personal vows and readings are a huge part of what makes our wedding film meaningful, and we wanted every word to be heard clearly. We connected our recorders to the venue's PA system and fitted wireless microphones to Matt and the celebrant before the ceremony began. Once every camera was in position, the audio was checked, and the drone was ready, we could finally take a step back and let the day unfold.
The ceremony itself felt wonderfully personal. Rather than simply following a formal structure, it brought the people closest to Nish and Matt into the heart of the moment, with friends and siblings sharing readings that made the occasion feel deeply connected to their lives and relationships. Those personal contributions gave the ceremony its own rhythm and made it about more than just the two people standing at the centre. It was also about the people who had been part of their story long before this day.
The decor fitted the setting beautifully. The styling Nish and Matt had envisioned felt completely at home among the Tuscan architecture and surrounding landscape, elegant without feeling out of place. Everything came together naturally, creating a setting that felt true to their taste while still letting the beauty of Fattoria di Fubbiano speak for itself.
For us, these are the ceremonies we love documenting most. The thoughtful details matter, but it's the personal touches, the voices of family and friends, and the small reactions happening throughout the gathering that turn a beautiful setting into a story that belongs entirely to one couple. And for Nish and Matt, this was the moment their wedding day truly came together.
The wedding dinner — a vintage Fiat, incredible Italian food & heartfelt speeches
As soon as the ceremony ended, we headed straight to the dinner area at Fattoria di Fubbiano. We wanted to capture the setting before the guests arrived, but time was very limited. Nish and Matt also wanted photographs with their family and friends, so we had to make the most of every minute.
We quickly walked around the venue, looking for a spot where everyone could fit comfortably, with beautiful surroundings and flattering light. In the end, we decided to use the ceremony area. There was just one small problem: the chairs were still in place, leaving us very little room to work with. We quickly cleared the space and rearranged everything, making enough room for the group photographs before bringing everyone together. These are the little behind-the-scenes moments that rarely make it into the final gallery, but they're a big part of how we keep the day moving while still making time for the photographs that matter to our couples.
Once the group photos were done, we returned to the dinner area to prepare for the speeches. Just like the ceremony, this part of the day required careful planning. We set up our fixed cameras, checked the framing, and prepared our audio recorders and wireless microphones to make sure we could capture every word clearly. Speeches are often filled with stories, unexpected jokes, and emotions that can't be recreated later, so we wanted to give them the same attention as the ceremony itself.
The atmosphere around dinner was already something special. Brindapino and FBS Bar brought an incredible food and drinks experience to the celebration, with traditional Italian dishes and a live cooking setup that made the meal feel like much more than a typical wedding dinner. There was something wonderful about seeing the food prepared and served in front of everyone, adding another layer to the experience and bringing that unmistakable Italian character to the evening.
But before dinner properly got underway, Nish and Matt had one more entrance to make. Arriving in a beautiful vintage Fiat provided by Brindapino, they turned up in a way that immediately caught everyone's attention. The car was such a lovely touch, and the arrival quickly turned into an energetic entrance filled with cheers and excitement. After a day of moving between two villas, heartfelt first looks, and a deeply personal ceremony, it was the perfect shift into the more celebratory part of the evening.
With everyone gathered, the food flowing, and the energy building, it was time for the speeches. We settled into our positions and let the evening unfold, ready to capture the laughter, the emotional moments, and all the little reactions around the tables. For us, these moments are just as important as the grand gestures. Often, it's a quick glance between family members, a friend's reaction, or a laugh that carries across the table that brings the whole story to life.
The Wedding Party — Tiramisu, endless dancing & an unforgettable night in Tuscany
Before the party truly kicked off, Nish and Matt gathered with their guests for a sweet Italian tradition: cutting their tiramisu wedding cake. After a day filled with emotional moments, personal vows, and time spent with their closest family and friends, it was a lovely way to pause together before the evening turned into something completely different. And honestly, what could be more fitting for a wedding in Tuscany than tiramisu?
Once the cake had been cut and everyone had their first taste, the atmosphere quickly shifted into party mode. The energy on the dance floor was incredible from the very beginning. Nish and Matt threw themselves into the celebration, surrounded by friends and family who were just as ready to let loose. Before long, the dance floor was packed, everyone was moving to the music, and the kind of spontaneous, joyful chaos we love documenting had taken over.
What made the party so special was how naturally everyone joined in. There was no need for much encouragement or a perfectly planned moment to get people dancing. The guests were there to celebrate Nish and Matt, and they did exactly that. Friends pulled each other onto the dance floor, groups formed and dissolved between songs, and laughter carried through the night. It felt less like a formal wedding reception and more like one huge celebration among people who were genuinely happy to be there together.
After the careful planning and all the little details that had gone into the day, it was wonderful to see Nish and Matt completely immersed in the moment. Our job became about keeping up with the energy, moving through the crowd, and capturing the real interactions as they happened. We love this part of a wedding because nothing needs to be staged. The movement, the expressions, the unexpected moments between friends, and the way the couple celebrate with their favourite people tell the story far better than anything we could plan.
The night carried on with an incredible atmosphere, and the celebration showed no signs of slowing down. From the tiramisu cutting to the packed dance floor, the party was the perfect ending to a wedding day that had brought together so many personal moments, thoughtful details, and genuine connections.
For us at Aurora Borealis Weddings, these are the memories that make a wedding film feel alive years later. Not just how the day looked, but how it felt to be there. And Nish and Matt's celebration had that feeling in abundance: full of energy, laughter, and the kind of joy that makes you wish the night could last just a little longer.
The third day of celebrations — Indian traditions, dhol beats & a baraat to remember
By the third day of celebrations, everyone was beginning to feel the effects of a very full few days, but the excitement was still very much there. Guests gathered at the Orange Garden, looking a little tired but ready for another evening with Nish and Matt. One detail we particularly loved was that their friends had made the effort to buy traditional Indian outfits for the occasion. It was such a thoughtful way to honour the couple and their traditions, and seeing everyone dressed for the celebration made the gathering feel even more special.
After a warm welcome, guests came together to enjoy a traditional Indian dinner. It was a chance to slow down for a moment, share a meal, and spend time with one another before the energy picked up again. But this was only the beginning of the evening. Once dinner was over, everyone was ready for something a little louder.
The next part of the celebration was a baraat, a traditional Indian wedding procession accompanied by music and dancing. Led by the powerful rhythms of the dhol drummers, the group made its way around the venue and down towards the dance floor. The sound of the drums filled the surroundings, drawing everyone into the celebration. Friends and family moved together through the venue, following the rhythm and building the anticipation with every step. It was such a lively way to bring everyone together before the second part of the party began.
When Nish and Matt arrived at the dance floor, they opened the next chapter of the evening with a traditional Indian dance. After spending the past few days documenting their wedding celebrations, it was wonderful to see another side of their story unfold through music, movement, and cultural traditions. The dhol beats brought an unmistakable energy to the room, and the atmosphere quickly grew into a celebration that felt completely different from the earlier parts of the wedding, yet just as personal.
For us, documenting a multi-day wedding like this is about more than capturing one beautiful ceremony. Each day brings its own atmosphere, traditions, and little moments that help tell the bigger story. Seeing Nish and Matt surrounded by friends who had made such an effort to be part of their celebration was a reminder of how much thought and love had gone into bringing everyone together.
Our on-site coverage came to an end around midnight, but our work was far from over. Once we got home, we immediately began backing up the footage and photographs from the celebrations, making sure everything was safely stored before turning our attention to what came next. The following day, we were heading to Pisa for Daisy and Devin's wedding at Villa Alta.
It's one of those realities of being a destination wedding photo and film team that people rarely see: while one wedding story is still fresh in our minds, we're already preparing to tell another. And as we finished the backups and got ready for the next journey, we couldn't help feeling grateful for the chance to document such different celebrations, each with its own people, traditions, and memories.
